So Joe, what exactly does it mean to be a Global Alliance Director at CBRE? Tell us about your role.
I am dedicated to one client, supporting them through a small business-like structure. My team and I manage various aspects like costs, third-party contractors, direct staff, procurement, safety, and environmental factors, all to provide services our client has hired us for.
Your role sits within what we call GWS Enterprise. Can you explain the difference between GWS Enterprise and GWS Local as it pertains to your role?
GWS Enterprise focuses on large clients or sectors, like Life Sciences in my case, with teams dedicated to one client. GWS Local, on the other hand, manages smaller clients, often serving multiple clients at once. Enterprise supports a more specialized, sector-driven approach.
That's a helpful distinction for someone who might potentially be interested in this type of work at CBRE. How did you first come to join us?
I was recruited into CBRE by a former manager and colleague who had become a client. I trusted him and knew CBRE had a strong reputation. That was seven years ago, and I've been with the company ever since. I'm very happy with my decision.
What was your familiarity with CBRE before joining, and how has your perception since evolved?
I previously worked on the client side in pharmaceuticals and knew CBRE primarily through their work in Europe. Like many people, I thought of CBRE as a real estate company that buys and sells property, but after joining, I was impressed by the scale and diversity of services they offer beyond real estate.
Yes! People are often surprised at the myriad opportunities available here. How long have you been with CBRE, and what roles have you held?
I've been with CBRE for seven years. I started as the America's Lead for Facilities in 2017 and then was promoted to Global Alliance Director in January 2022, overseeing the global contract for the same client.
What is one key takeaway about CBRE that you think most people don't know?
CBRE manages facilities for many of the world's largest companies, including banks, pharmaceutical companies, and retail brands. People often don't realize the scale of what we do—we're supporting the operations of companies that impact everyday life. Once you see the scale, you realize how CBRE is running a large portion of global business operations.

As you've progressed in your work with us, how would you describe CBRE's values and culture?
The company's RISE values—Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence—really resonate with me. They align with my personal values and guide decision-making. CBRE also fosters an inclusive environment where people from all areas are encouraged to contribute their voice.
Have you faced any challenges in your role at CBRE, and if so, how do you feel they have provided opportunities for growth?
The main challenges come from managing people, rather than technical issues. Clients or employees might be dissatisfied, and handling these situations requires understanding of each individual. Over time, I've learned to take my time in responding, building relationships to help resolve issues more effectively. It's about knowing what's important to that individual person and finding the right approach.
Relationship building and management is a crucial part of our business, and it looks like you've had many opportunities to hone your skills over the years. How do you feel your potential has become real at CBRE?
I realized the impact of my work when my wife started taking a medication produced at a facility we support. Seeing the direct connection between our services and life-saving products made me appreciate the importance of what we do. Our work supports clients who create life-saving technologies, and that makes it very real and rewarding.
Creating impact is extremely important to us and hopefully to those considering joining us. What would you say to someone considering a role similar to yours at CBRE?
